Veterinary Services
Surgical and
Medical At the Oaklandon Animal Clinic we perform a variety of surgical
procedures. Starting with routine elective surgeries such as spays and neuters
and going on to more complex procedures such as abdominal surgeries for foreign
materials ingested. A majority of our surgeries are performed
using Laser. Laser surgery sears nerve endings and blood vessels. Because of
this you have less bleeding and swelling and as a result significantly reduced
pain. All of our surgeries have pre-anesthetic bloodwork performed to assure
that all organ functions are normal. Additionally all patients have IV
catheters in place and receive fluids for blood pressure support. All patients
are on a cardiac monitor to monitor heart function during the procedure. Here at
the Oaklandon Animal Clinic we have been using sevoflurane anesthesia for the
past 6 years. It is the safest anesthesia available for veterinary use. We go to
these lengths to keep surgical risk to a minimum during any surgical procedure
and to have the best possible outcome for patients.
We additionally see
patients for a variety of medical problems ranging from skin and ear problems to
complex internal medicine cases. We have a variety of in house tools and Antech
Laboratories as a referral lab to help us solve your pets problems. We also
provide routine preventative medicine to help prevent as many diseases as
possible through vaccinations, heartworm prevention and client education. Client
education is vital to keeping your pet healthy and to help facilitate that all
of our appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes.

tissue and skeletal disease.

In-House Lab
Our
in-house laboratory allows us to have immediate results on common tests such as
fecal exams and heartworm tests-- but also stat results on white and red blood
cell counts and chemistry profiles which help us determine quickly what is
causing your pets illness. Thus, we can institute accurate therapy immediately.
Additionally we have a complete pharmacy for medications you may need to treat
your pet.

Dentistry Here
at the Oaklandon Animal Clinic we provide comprehensive dental care for your
pet. We strongly believe in prevention when it comes to your pets oral health.
Through diets such as Science Diet T/D, plaque and tartar formation can be
significantly reduced. Additionally brushing
of teeth provides further plaque reduction. And in situations where plaque has
accumulated and gingivitis is present routine dental cleanings are performed
under anesthesia. Additionally we have digital dental radiography available to
help us evaluate the health of the teeth and determine whether a tooth may need
to be extracted. Without dental radiography it is not possible to perform a
thorough examination. Additionally impacted teeth and retained roots will not be
found and can cause infection and pain to your pet. A healthy oral cavity is
critically important to the whole body as infection in the oral cavity can lead
to damage of the heart, liver and kidneys and seriously affect quality of life.

Video
Otoscopy Video otoscopy enables us to look into the ear canal and have
the image magnified significantly during office exams to demonstrate to clients
any pathology present in the ear canal. Additionally it enables us to evaluate
the tympannic membranes (ear drums) and some of the structures in the middle
ear. We perform deep ear cleanings of the external ear canal and other
procedures involving the middle ear using video otoscopy. Commonly ear disease
is missed, such as ear mites, foreign material and ceruminoliths, for the lack
of looking with the proper tools. This can cause significant discomfort and pain
and lead to more advanced ear disease that requires more aggressive and
expensive treatment.
